In-N-Out Burger is a popular burger joint serving burgers, fries, malts and shakes. It's also known for having a "Super Secret Menu," which contains popular dishes like the "Flying Dutchman." However, it does not provide grilled chicken or salads, which are available at many other burger shops.

Although In-N-Out Burger has a reputation for serving fresh, excellent burgers, if you have diabetes, you may find it difficult to eat here. The menu may be difficult to navigate if you're watching your carbs intake. Because there are only a few main cuisine categories on the In-N-Out Burger menu, ordering is simple. On the In-N-Out Burger website, the restaurant gives nutritional information and ingredient lists for their core menu items.

If you prefer, you can customize your food by omitting condiments or ordering a hamburger without a bun to reduce the number of carbs in your meal. However, for the vast majority of customized items, nutritional information is unavailable.

Here's what you can try at In-N-Out Burger if you have diabetes.

Burgers

At In-N-Out, you can customize your burger in a variety of ways. You can change the quantities of meat, cheese, special sauce, and seasonings. You can even request that your hamburger be halved. This may be your best bet if you prefer a conventional burger with a bun.

However, the serving size will be substantially lower than the next healthiest option on the menu, the Protein-Style hamburger, which is a classic In-N-Out hamburger (with one patty and no cheese) wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun. This is the best choice for people with diabetes because it removes all the carbs in the bun.

The Protein-Style hamburger with onions has 240 calories, 17 grams of fat (4 grams of saturated fat), 11 grams of carbohydrate, 13 grams of protein, and 370 milligrams of sodium. By removing the bun, you save a lot of calories, carbs, and sodium.

The Flying Dutchman

The Flying Dutchman is another fan favourite. By default, this consists of two freshly cooked patties sandwiched between two slices of American cheese. Then you can add additional toppings like onions, lettuce, or mustard if you want. The Flying Dutchman has 0 grams of carbs and is a suitable option for someone with diabetes.

The Double-Double

The Double-Double burger is perhaps the most popular option for those looking for a low carb burger. A bun, two slices of American cheese, two meat patties, fresh or grilled onions, lettuce, a sauce, and tomatoes are included. By omitting the bread and sauce, you can make this a low carb burger.

Drinks

Many other fast-food restaurants provide the same soda fountain options as In-N-Out. Of course, you can always choose to simply drink water. In fact, ordering water and then squeezing lemon wedges into the cup with sweetener or sugar to make a lighter lemonade is a popular menu hack.

Even the largest size of unsweetened iced tea (29 ounces) contains 0 calories, 0 grams of fat, 0 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams of carbohydrate, 0 grams of protein, and 0 milligrams of sodium. However, be sure to clarify that you want unsweetened tea, as sweet tea is also available and contains up to 260 calories.

What to avoid at In-N-Out if you have diabetes?

Fries

While there is only one option for French fries on the basic menu, there are methods to modify them. Customized fries, on the other hand, aren't always healthier than regular fries. A single order of standard French fries contains 370 calories, 15 grams of fat, 1.5 grams of saturated fat, 52 grams of carbohydrate, 6 grams of protein, and 250 milligrams of salt. Fries are best to be avoided if you have diabetes. If you really want to have some, you may simply share them with a friend if you're trying to reduce your carbs intake.

Shakes

In-N-Out is famous for its ice cream shakes. Vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate are the three primary flavors. You can also mix any flavor combination to create your own unique mixture. On the basic menu, there is only one shake size, which is 15 ounces.

A regular (15-ounce) vanilla shake contains 570 calories, 30 grams of fat (19 grams of saturated fat), 65 grams of carbohydrate, 10 grams of protein, and 360 milligrams of sodium. That's a lot of carbs for someone with diabetes, so it's best to avoid shakes if possible.

Bottom Line

Fresh, high-quality cuisine and a willingness to fulfil client requests are hallmarks of In-N-Out Burger. However, the menu is fairly limited for someone who needs to watch their blood sugar levels. The only items on the menu that are suitable for someone who has diabetes are the Protein-Style hamburger, the Double-Double and the Flying Dutchman, which you can have with an unsweetened iced tea. Everything else is unfortunately off-limits if you have diabetes.
